In this session attendees hear the latest news about ROI processing including regulatory changes, workflow challenges with ROI processing in electronic environments and trends in requestor volumes and centralization strategies. Speakers dissect the seven most notorious and confusing ROI situations from untangling patient authorizations to processing sensitive information in cases of drug testing, mental health issues and compliance with the minimum necessary disclosure standards.

Beyond discussing these difficult issues, attendees receive advice and tips on how to educate staff and revise workflows to prevent problems in the future. Finally, a valuable ROI Reference Guide will be shared and distributed.

Codes, the Whole Codes and Nothing but the Codes: Ensuring ICD-10 Coder Productivity
Presentation sponsored by IOD, Inc.
Scot Nemchik, CCS, CIRCC, AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Trainer
IOD, Incorporated

Even under ICD-9, many hospitals are experiencing higher coding backlogs than they would like. Under ICD-10, this backlog will become a mountain that continues to grow. Even if our HIM departments were allowed to increase their coders by twenty percent, there are insufficient coding resources in the system to supply them. We have compared the coding practices of hundreds of hospitals and find that a significant improvement in coding productivity is easily within reach by getting coders back to coding. This presentation quantifies our findings and allows the participants to estimate the impact that they might see in their departments by eliminating work that is currently done by their coders that does not require a coder’s knowledge. With this Information, they will be able to construct a compelling argument for redesigning the work of coders well before ICD-10 goes into effect
