Committee Descriptions

 Community Education

  1. Increase public awareness and understanding of the issues surrounding personal health information and health records.
     

  2. Provide individuals with the information they need to encourage them to maintain a personal health record (PHR) in order to help improve the quality of care they receive.
     

  3. Create greater industry and public awareness of the HIM profession and the important role HIM professionals play in effective management of personal health information needed to deliver quality healthcare to the public.


Data and Reimbursement

  1. Provide avenues of education for coding skills via, workshops,        roundtables and internet access.
     
  2. Communicate regulatory changes to all those involved in the coding of health information.
     
  3. Serve as a liaison for other organizations that affect coding and organizations that use the coded data. 
     
  4. Serve as a conduit from our membership for the flow of information facilitating regulatory changes.
     
  5. Represent the diversity of our membership.

Committee Member Roles:

  1. Share educational or informative that may be shared with our peers.
     
  2. Help research coding question presented to our committee via coding  roundtables.
     
  3. Help with the preparations of the Annual Coding Workshop.

Finance Committee

  1. The Finance committee shall devise and direct committee programs for managing the financial assets of MeHIMA.


Legislative Committee

We try to meet monthly, usually by teleconferencing, to keep in touch and to keep the committee work progressing.

The Legislative Committee goals are:

  1. To keep the MeHIMA membership informed of current legislation which has a bearing on HIM in Maine healthcare facilities, and which may have an overall impact on the procedures of information management and healthcare delivery statewide. 
     

  2. To serve as a liaison for legislative issues, including communicating MeHIMA membership concerns to legislators, regulators and others. 
     

  3. To update and improve the MeHIMA Guide to Medicolegal Information as a service to MeHIMA members, and as a knowledge based resource for management of information, to include the review and update of the remaining six chapters and to see that they are posted in the Communities of Practice website.
     

  4. Serve as a resource for MeHIMA memberships legal inquires on legal and regulatory issues. 
     

  5. Provide info for the “Legislative Corner”.


Nominating Committee

The committee shall be responsible for preparation of the ballots to the active membership of the corporation.  In even-numbered years the committee shall prepare ballots for nominees with summaries of the qualifications for the state’s nomination for the Nominating Committee of AHIMA.   


Program Committee

This committee shall prepare and arrange the educational programs for all state meetings, subject to approval of the Board of Directors.


Public Relations and Recruitment Committee

This committee strives to promote the health information management profession, to recruit new members to the organization, and provide support to current members through member recognition programs and promotional materials


Scholarship Committee

The Committee assists members with the cost of AHIMA’s certification examinations (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CHP and CHPS). Communicate to all Health Information Management professionals, who may be potential recipients, the scholarship funds available. 


Technology Committee

  1. Oversee the design and ongoing maintenance of MeHIMA's Website
     
  2. Oversee the ongoing maintenance of MeHIMA Community of Practice
     
  3. Develop and maintain timely communication through the E-Maineliner.
     
  4. Recommend hardware and software purchases for MeHIMA
     
  5. Provide a central repository for database files and software licenses

The County Connection Committee

The committee serves as a viable networking avenue for the four county hospitals at a minimum, but striving to be a networking avenue for all Health Information Management professionals in Aroostook County.  In addition, the committee strives for higher participation within the region from all hospitals and to invite other accredited and non-accredited Health Information Management professionals to the meetings.
